Lampshades do not only help illuminate a room, it also accentuates the bed side area, and makes for a nice piece. For those wanting to design their bedroom, or spruce it up with a new bedside lamp, what should they keep in mind in choosing a bedside table lamp?

Home design website Houzz.com came up with pointers for homeowners who want to buy new bedside lamps. Builders and Contractors

“As a rule of thumb, choose a shade that’s two-thirds the height of the base. That proportion assures that the lamp won’t look top or bottom heavy. You also want to make sure the shade doesn’t expose any of the hardware underneath, such as the harp (the wire frame around the lightbulb).”

What to consider

Home improvement website The Spruce also came up with a list of factors to consider when choosing a lampshade or bed side lamp. Room and lamp are some of the factors they mentioned in their blog post. Electricians

“The Room: Think about the color and style of the room the lamp will be in and decide whether you want it to stand out or blend in with the surroundings. Either way, they should complement each other. The Light: How much light do you need and where should it be focused? Dark shades don’t usually allow light to filter through while light shades do. If it’s a reading lamp you’ll want a fairly wide lampshade base so that you get plenty of light.”

As for lampshades that will be used in the living room home décor and improvement website Freshome.com shared some tips. One of the pieces of advice that they shared is take into consideration the whole living room design when choosing a lampshade.

“Decide how your lampshade will fit in your interiors. Before you get too concentrated on how the lampshade looks, don’t forget to look at the space it will go in. A bedside table lampshade could need a smaller profile if a bedside table is small or if there isn’t a lot of space to get in and out of the bed freely. While a floor lamp next to a wingback chair may afford a wider profile for its placement in your living room.”
