As time moves on, more and more companies are moving towards using renewable energy sources to power the things that we love. One of these things in particular being electric powered cars. Electric powered cars have been around for quite some time now, but it hasn’t been until recently that they have become more accessible and appealing to the masses. The electric cars of the past, have looked somewhat strange, odd and resembled deathlike contrapcetions. Nowadays, electric cars are stylish, modern, and sought after. Nationwide policy programs have also helped to promote the rise of the electric car. The U.S for instance, has been promoting the use of renewable energies and electric vehicles for quite some time in its domestic policies.

The Obama Administration is committed to taking responsible steps to combat climate change and reduce our dependence on oil. That is why today, the White House and the Edison Electric Institute, which represents investor-owned electric utilities, are announcing new commitments by more than 120 businesses, non-profits, and schools, including more than 70 Edison Electric Institute utility companies, to purchase electric vehicles and technologies and to install workplace charging stations.

Today’s commitments demonstrate that businesses across the U.S. are investing in the technology that will enhance our energy security by reducing our dependence on oil, promoting measures to cut fuel costs for American families and businesses, and helping the U.S. continue to cut carbon pollution. In fact, electric vehicles can actually get cleaner as they get older, because the grid they are plugged into can be powered by cleaner energy over time. Today’s announcements include:

  • Commitments from more than 70 electric utility companies to devote at least 5 percent of their annual fleet acquisition budgets to purchasing plug-in electric vehicles and technologies, totaling investments of approximately $50 million per year.
  • 61 new businesses, schools, and non-profits committing to install workplace charging stations for their employees.
  • A new action by the U.S. Department of Energy to support new, competitively-awarded projects to enable aggregated purchases of EVs and other advanced technology vehicles.

AutoMakers Scrambling To Introduce More Electric Cars

Not only is the government seeing the rise but many automakers are also making the push to produce more and better electric cars. For instance, one major american car manufactuerer has made the push to create reasonably priced and stylish electric cars for american consumers. Ford has revealed its intention to push more vehicles into its electric car lineup. While Ford is currently ranked second in sales for the electric car indsutry its ford focus model was ranked as the most fuel efficient car in north america. Also reports indicate that ford is moving to create a larger electric sedan to compete with tesla’s model S sedan.

Mark Fields, president and CEO of Ford Motor Company, said on Monday that it intends to mass-produce affordable electric vehicles. Fields, in an interview with Yahoo Finance, emphasized that Ford has the capability to make electric cars with a strategy different from that of Tesla Motors.

Revealing the company’s intentions to produce reasonably priced electric cars, Fields pointed out that the Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker has a full line of electric vehicles that have performed well in the market place so far. Fields also said that Ford is not interested in buying Tesla, despite ongoing speculation that both Ford and General Motors Company are keen to acquire Tesla. Tesla Motors, led by CEO Elon Musk, is reportedly struggling to ramp up demand for its Model S sedan, but has rejected such concerns.
